How Brainware University celebrated 'World Environment Day'?

World Environment Day 2k23

Hardly anyone is found who is not complaining about the temperature of the city. But who is responsible for such massive spikes in the temperature? Is it Nature? Or is it us? Isn't it a united effort from mankind?

When forests are cut down, much of that stored carbon is released into the atmosphere again as carbon dioxide (CO2). This is how deforestation and forest degradation contribute to global warming. This global warming causes rise in the temperature.

To spread awareness on environmental preservation and conservation, Brainware University organised a number of activities to observe the 'World Environment Day' on June 5, 2023.

The departments of Biotechnology and Agriculture undertook the initiative to show the world, how a small step can make a difference. This small step involved plantation of trees in the huge campus of Brainware University. The students also participated in a campaign on 'Ecological Restoration'. A live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on 'World Environment Day' was also streamed for the faculty members.

Brainware University did not restrict its activities within the campus on World Environment Day. The faculty members and students from the Department of Biotechnology and Agriculture visited Kotra Gram Panchayet to discuss on organic farming.

In the words of renowned Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, "We only get one planet." But many of us behave in such a way as if we have got several to spare. Former US President Jimmy Carter once said, "Like music and art, love of nature is a common language that can transcend political or social boundaries." These noble thoughts inspired Brainware University to take these initiatives.

The discussion and implementation of the organic farming is part of the UBA 2.0 Vermicompost project which is being supervised by Dr. Sandhimita Mandal, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology. Sougata Patra, BDO, Barasat was also present at the gathering and discussion.

Currently, a planned and effective way must be adopted so that we can identify other energy sources. Only in this way, we can preserve Nature. The continuous small initiatives undertaken by Brainware University will certainly inspire some people to come forward in this initiative!
