'Remember me when I’m gone, but don’t forget me when I’m here': Psychology seminar conveyed the delicate balance between love and fading memories

Psychology seminar conveyed the delicate balance

Psychology Seminar on Dementia

Organised by the Department of Psychology at Brainware University, a recent seminar 'My Father is Afraid of Water' conveyed the delicate balance between love and fading memories, in the shadow of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Suprised by this unusual name of the seminar? Well, the organisers adopted a unique method of spreading awareness on Alzheimer’s and dementia with the short film titled 'My Father is Afraid of Water'. The talented filmmaker Prateek Rajendra Srivastava presented his short film, skillfully portraying a son’s struggles amidst his father’s journey through Dementia.

Following that, the seminar unfolded with a lecture on Dementia delivered by Dr. Sanchita Ghosh, Assistant Professor of Psychology at West Bengal State University. The insightful discussion session between Dr. Sanchita Ghosh and filmmaker Prateek Rajendra Srivastava was an added bonus for the students.

The event was a blend of academia and art, featuring poetry recitation, heartfelt words from the film cast Mohan Agashe, and a final Q&A session with students, echoing notes on empathy and love.

As pointed out by the HOD Dr. Alok Kumar Chowdhury, it was a journey into the labyrinth of dementia, combining both logical and artistic dimensions that mirror the harmony of the left and right brain. The day ended on a sentiment reiterated by both guests alike, “Alzheimer’s may steal memories, but it can never take away the love we share”.
