The Mechanical Engineering departments of Brainware University and Brainware Group of Institutions jointly organized an online workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) in the Field of Mechanical Engineering on November 1, 2021. To preside over the session, Mr. Nityananda Chel, Senior Manager, Core Shop, Foundry, Tata Motors Ltd., Jamshedpur was invited as the guest speaker. The objective of the event was to acquaint the students with the prospective job opportunities and industry scenario amidst the pandemic. The workshop was conducted through Google Meet and attended by more than 50 participants.

The speaker commenced the session focusing on the relevance of the workshop. He said, “The Internet of Things (IoT) is changing the way products are designed, prototyped and manufactured. Manufacturers that fail to cope up with the IoT’s march into their sector will quickly fall behind, and with that in mind, we’ve decided to look at some of the recent developments and consider what they mean specifcally for mechanical engineering.”

Mr. Chel also mentioned, “While the software elements of a product can be upgraded remotely, their mechanical aspects cannot. This means products will need to make their way into the market with dormant mechanical functionality to future-proof the product. In short, mechanical engineers need to plan for what’s to come by building in future requirements from the outset, so that when the latest software update is installed, the mechanical functionality is there to enable it.”

Thereafter, the speaker highlighted some of the tricks and methods of selecting a company which can be suitable for individuals and how to prepare for the same. This was followed by an interactive session between the curious participants and the guest. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks offered to the Mr. Chel by the co-ordinator, Mr. Gourab Chakraborty.
