According to author and Rabindrasangeet exponent Santidev Ghosh, the song Ketechhe ekela birohero bela, a duet by Arjun and Chitrangada in Tagore’s dance-drama Chitrangada, was composed to the tune of Sedin Dujone Dulechinu Bone. A couple of years before Chitrangada was composed, ‘Sedin Dujone Dulechinu Bone’ was composed as a dance-duet. When a proposal came to include this dance in Chitrangada, Gurudev wrote the song in the same rhythm, keeping it in sync with the lyrics of the earlier song for the dance-drama.

সেদিন দুজনে দুলেছিনু বনে, ফুলডোরে বাঁধা ঝুলনা।
সেই স্মৃতিটুকু কভু খনে খনে যেন জাগে মনে, ভুলো না ॥
সেদিন বাতাসে ছিল তুমি জানো– আমারি মনের প্রলাপ জড়ানো,
আকাশে আকাশে আছিল ছড়ানো তোমার হাসির তুলনা ॥
যেতে যেতে পথে পূর্ণিমারাতে চাঁদ উঠেছিল গগনে।
দেখা হয়েছিল তোমাতে আমাতে কী জানি কী মহা লগনে।
এখন আমার বেলা নাহি আর, বহিব একাকী বিরহের ভার-
– বাঁধিনু যে রাখী পরানে তোমার সে রাখী খুলো না, খুলো না ॥
English translation:
We had swayed together that day on a swing bedecked with flowers,
Those memories keep returning, urging my mind not to forget.
You know the breeze that day was entangled with my meaningless words, Y
our smile seemed to be sprinkled across the sky.
As we traversed along the path that night, the full moon rose.
I know not at what auspicious moment our meeting took place.
Now that time is running out, I will bear the burden of suffering alone
Please do not ever untie the band of love I tied to your soul.

Sri Phalguni Mookhopadhayay Chancellor, Brainware University Phalguni Mookhopadhayay is the founder-Chancellor of Brainware University, founder-Chairman and Managing-Director of Brainware Consultancy Private Limited and founder-Chairman of Webguru Infosystems Private Limited. He did his schooling at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, and graduated with honours in Economics from St Xavier’s College, Kolkata. He completed his masters in Economics from Calcutta University and MBA from IISWBM, before joining Hindustan Lever as a management trainee. He worked as a market planner for the ABP group for nearly a decade before striking out on his own and successfully launching two private limited companies and one University.
