A professional who displays tactfulness, skill, understanding and knowledge on varied topics – enterprise, forcefulness and  other leadership qualities to motivate and influence other candidates can be considered as a leader. At times the leader has to direct the group, facilitate the situation, inspire individuals and guide in coming to a conclusion.

In a team , members work in a structured  environment , they know what boundaries exist and who has the final authority. The leader sets high standard of performance and he/she is respected via active and willing participation.

A leader creates an environment encompassing trust, open communication, creative thinking and cohesive and extensive  team effort by motivating and inspiring them. He/she provides the team with a vision of project objectives where behaviour is consistent with words. A leader maintains healthy group dynamics by intervening where necessary to aid the group in resolving issues and facilitate collaboration. It is the duty of the leader to imbibe creativity and risk taking qualities among the team members have necessary education and training to effectively participate in the team. A leader should also identify and appreciate the achievements of the team and their performances.  A leader familiarizes the team with the responsibilities to support task performances .

Team leader should not merely have requisite knowledge and skills but also play a role in a manner that facilitates team building. A leader should provide updated report on the activities of the group against the programme , plan or schedule. A leader ensures that each and every member of his/her team is diligent and focussed enough to lead to excellent performance with proper usage of time. Great leaders are excellent in working strategically. They are capable of anticipating  what will happen in the future.The good news is that each of these leadership qualities can be learned, and they must be learned by practice and repetition.
