Once again, it was the moment to be proud of yet another prestigious recognition!
Once again, it was the time to clap in unison as a family as our Hon'ble Chancellor Phalguni Mookhopadhyay walked up to the stage to receive the ABP Ananda Shiksha Samman 2023 for 'Excellence in Academics and Placements'.
And finally, once again, it is the time to be devoted to our motto of 'We make careers' with utmost conviction!
Like last year, this year also, Brainware University received all the prestigious education awards. It started with Times Business Awards 2023, followed by Zee 24 Ghanta Education Excellence and News18 Bangla Education Eminence. Furthermore, as per the latest IIRF Rankings, Brainware University has secured the no. 1 rank as the 'Best Private University in West Bengal' in the 'technical' category.
In this context, we would humbly like to point out that we have created a world-class infrastructure with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities along with a team of dynamic faculty members.
We dedicate this achievement to our students, faculty and staff members, our stakeholders, and each and every one with the Brainware family without whom this journey would not have been possible.

Citizen Journalism growing stronger with MoJo

Snehasis Sur, President, Press Club Kolkata and senior journalist was present at Brainware University to conduct a 'Workshop on Mobile Journalism' on June 3, 2023. The workshop was organised by the Department of Media Science and Journalism.
Sur discussed how citizen journalism has become stronger in recent times. "There is no need for a journalist now because every citizen is a journalist now," he said. "So, what is the difference between you and others?" he asked the Media Science students.
While speaking about the career opportunities in the field of media, Sur highligted the fact that it is the dream of a journalist to work in the print or electronic media. However, they must remember that times are changing, and digital media is the future. He further added that with the internet, at present, the same resource is available to a student of Brainware University and anyone else across the world. In this regard, building a portfolio is of utmost importance to make a mark in this field.

Role of a Microbiologist in the Hospitality Industry: Hygiene Officer Pijush Das Gupta discusses with the students

To explore the career options of Microbiology students in the Hospitality sector, Pijush Das Gupta, Hygiene Officer, Sofitel Bahrain was present to interact with the Microbiology and Biotechnology students of Brainware University at a seminar on 'Career Prospects and Impact of Microbiology in Hospitality Industry' on June 3, 2023. The seminar was organised by the Department of Biotechnology.
Well, it is always a nice feeling when anyone talks about food as 'The subject of food is pretty vast," said Das Gupta. However, with this comes the impending challenges. Incidentally, Das Gupta served as the Food Safety Officer for the Japan national football team at the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar last year.

At the seminar on 'Engaging Boys and Young Men in Gender Equality', the speaker Ronita Biswas who is an Assistant Teacher at Garden High International School, echoed the same feeling. The seminar was organised by the Department of English and Literary Studies on June 6, 2023.
She pointed out that gender equality is not a topic to be discussed in AC rooms, but it is a praxis. "It is fashionable to talk about AI but when our basic humanity is compromised then AI has no value," Biswas stated. Biswas time and again highlighted that we need to recognise the human rights. She said, "When both sides of the spectrum are easier, life becomes easier."

The basic need of Love: Understanding its various languages at the seminar on 'Relationships'

Relationships struggles are the single largest source of stress for a staggering 87 per cent of GenZ with 1 in 3 stating that their mental wellbeing is greatly impacted if they break up with their partner," a NielsenIQ study suggests.
This was the reason behind the seminar on 'Relationships: Love Speaks Many Languages' organised by the Department of Psychology on June 9, 2023. Dr. Sritama Ghosh, Practicing Psychologist and Special Educator highlighted the fact - Relationship happens to be one of the most important things in today's world. "Why is it so?" she asked this necessary question.
Dr. Ghosh focused on the development of love as a basic need, not only in terms of lovers' relationships but in other relationships. One of the major takeaways for the students at the seminar was understanding the versatility of relationships.

Engaging audience in OTT: Workshop on 'Content Management in Digital Media and OTT Platforms' for the Media Science students

The Department of Media Science and Journalism organised a practical workshop on 'Content Management in Digital Media and OTT Platforms' with Altamas Hamid, Manager, Bengali Original Content, Zee5 on June 10, 2023.
Hamid started his discussion with 'What is social media content?' He moved on to discuss with the students how content can be distributed among all platforms. The students also got a chance to resolve their queries related to employment in the digital domain in the course of the interactive session.
Hamid also discussed how to prepare one's pitch deck in case one has a story idea for OTT.

Calcutta High Court Advocate has some useful suggestions for budding lawyers

Calcutta High Court Advocate Sutapa Sanyal was present at Brainware University to conduct a seminar on 'Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management and Professional Practices for Startups' for the LLM students.
Sanyal had some useful and important suggestions for the students who wish to start their careers as practitioners. In such a career, one needs to look into the fact that everyone should get equal opportunities. She also highlighted the importance of holding Lok Adalats at the ground level so that justice can be ensured across all sections of the population.

At the 'Nutrition Programme' on June 22, 2023, the Nursing students displayed a wide range of balanced diets suitable for the people. The importance of a balanced diet cannot be emphasised enough for a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle can be attained by maintaining a balanced diet and keeping into consideration to meet all the essential nutrients required by the body.
The insightful and informative display by the Institute of Nursing of Brainware University was organised to spread awarenss among people regarding the importance of a balanced diet.
Food must provide solace to the taste buds but you must remember 'Eat Better, Live Better'!

Exhibition on 'Cardiac, Orthopedic and Respiratory Devices in Adult Health Nursing' at Institute of Nursing

An adult health nurse practioneer is responsible for diagnosing and treating common health problems. To pursue one of the most noble professions on Earth, one needs to have a thorough understanding of the human body.
The Institute of Nursing at Brainware University in this regard organised an exhibition on 'Cardiac, Orthopedic and Respiratory Devices in Adult Health Nursing'. For sustainable development of the medical devices industry and safeguarding the interests of patients, India needs to actively reflect and work towards addressing the need for timely availability of crucial life-saving medical technologies to citizens.

Apollo Group President Dr K Hari Prasad discusses the necessity to stop management in healthcare

"The transformation of healthcare sector to healthcare industry has created a gap between the doc and patients. We must not confuse our patients with customers. They are coming to get cured, to seek solace," Dr. K Hari Prasad, President, Apollo Group of Hospitals said while interacting with the students. Dr. Prasad feels that healthcare managers are responsible for creating this gap between patients and doctors and he did not shy away to include himself in this oeuvre of 'healthcare managers'. This has been one of the reasons why he meticulously chose the topic 'STOP Management in Healthcare' to address the students. The seminar was orgnised by the Campus-to-Corporate (C2C) department on June 2, 2023.
Hon'ble Chancellor Phalguni Mookhopadhayay extended a warm welcome to Dr. K Hari Prasad and his team. Dr. Prasad was accompanied by Dr Nandini Ali, Chief Marketing Officer, Hospitals Division, Apollo Hospital Group; Rana Dasgupta, Chief Executive Officer - Eastern Region, Apollo Hospitals Group and Abhijit Majumder, Chief Operating Officer - Eastern Region, Apollo Hospitals Group.

Brainware University felicitates the HS toppers of North 24 Parganas with 'Shiksha Samman'

“Teachers can open the door, but you must enter it yourself.” — Chinese proverb
On June 26, 2023, Brainware University undertook a unique initiative to felicitate the Higher Secondary toppers of North 24 Parganas with the 'Brainware University Shiksha Samman'. State toppers Prerana Paul (4th), Debarshi Basak (7th), Sritama Mistry (8th) and Sudip Pal (10th) were also among those who were felicitated.
"I am delighted to see that most of the toppers of this batch are thinking something different. Some wish to pursue a research career with Economics while some wish to pursue English. These decisions are rather refreshing because earlier the toppers either opted for Medical or Engineering," said Mahua Pal, Registrar, Brainware University who was present at the event. "I feel that one needs to be passionate about the subject that one is pursuing as these four years will define and shape your career," she added.
A total number of 24 Higher Secondary students attended the felicitation ceremony. The students were accompanied by their parents. The headmasters of some of the schools were also present at the ceremony and lauded this initiative of Brainware University. Dr. Anup Kumar Maity, Dean, Students Welfare and Dr. Anant Kumar Srivastava, Dean, Academics were also present at the felicitation ceremony.

Establishing the harmony between mind and body: Brainware University celebrates International Day of Yoga

On the 9th International Day of Yoga, the students of Brainware University participated in this ancient Indian wellness practice. We must remember that Yoga is not a two-hour hobby class once a week, it is a way of balancing the emotions and establishing the harmony between the mind and body.
Modern lifestyle has lost the harmony in mind-body relationship which has caused several stress-based diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart diseases and cancer. This is why the modern world needs Yoga more than ever before because it has technical systems to help calm the mind, maintain resilience, harness physical and mental energies and to develop an integrated personality.

26 teams; 72 hours of creativity and one Winner: 72-Hour-Challenge: A short Filmmaking Competition

26 teams; 72 hours of creativity and one Winner: 72-Hour-Challenge: A short Filmmaking Competition

Like every year, this year also, the Department of Multimedia organised '72-Hour-Challenge: A short Filmmaking Competition' was organised in collaboration with Deep Focus, the cine club of the university. 'Hope' was the theme for this year's competition.This short filmmaking is an annual event on the occasion of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray's birth anniversary. In this competition, the registered students had to make a short film and submit it within 72 hours.
The students indeed mesmerised the judges and the audiences with their spectacular renditions on screen. Renowned actor and theatre artist Partha Sarathi Deb, filmmaker Rajesh Dutta and scriptwriter Ipsita Roy Sarkar were the judges at the competition.
‘Cosmic Reels’ won the competition with their impactful symbol of ‘Hope’ this year. The winners received gift vouchers from PVR Cinemas, Wow Momo and Zee5.

How Brainware University celebrated 'World Environment Day'!

To spread awareness on environmental preservation and conservation, Brainware University organised a number of activities to observe the 'World Environment Day' on June 5, 2023.
The departments of Biotechnology and Agriculture undertook the initiative to show the world, how a small step can make a difference. This small step involved plantation of trees in the huge campus of Brainware University. The students also participated in a campaign on 'Ecological Restoration'. A live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on 'World Environment Day' was also streamed for the faculty members.
Brainware University did not restrict its activities within the campus on World Environment Day. The faculty members and students from the Department of Biotechnology and Agriculture visited Kotra Gram Panchayet to discuss on organic farming.
The discussion and implementation of the organic farming is part of the UBA 2.0 Vermicompost project which is being supervised by Dr. Sandhimita Mandal, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology. Sougata Patra, BDO, Barasat was also present at the gathering and discussion.
Currently, a planned and effective way must be adopted so that we can identify other energy sources. Only in this way, we can preserve Nature. The continuous small initiatives undertaken by Brainware University will certainly inspire some people to come forward in this initiative!

In the words of renowned Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, "We only get one planet." But many of us behave in such a way as if we have got several to spare!
Brainware University did not restrict its activities within the campus on World Environment Day. The faculty members and students from the Department of Biotechnology and Agriculture visited Kotra Gram Panchayet to discuss organic farming.
This initiative is part of the UBA 2.0 Vermicompost project which is being supervised by Dr. Sandhimita Mandal, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology. Sougata Patra, BDO, Barasat was also present at the gathering and discussion.

Riding Together for a Sustainable Future: World Bicycle Day

Acknowledging the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, the United Nations General Assembly in 2018, recognised the bicycle as a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport to celebrate 'World Bicycle Day' on June 3, 2023.
With the idea of 'Riding Together for a Sustainable Future', the students and faculty members of Brainware University rode their bicycles in a small initiative to reduce the carbon footprint.
With its initiative on 'World Bicycle Day', Brainware University also attempted to infuse this idea among the common people.

Director of Project and Research Dr Deepshikha Datta gets her 7th SCOPUS publication

It gives us immense pleasure to share the Dr Deepshikha Datta, Director, Research & Project, Brainware University has recently published a paper titled 'Development of rice starch/recycled polypropylene biocomposites with jute waste nanofiber-based filler' in the SCI/SCOPUS journal 'Sustainable Chemistry and Pharmacy'. This is the 7th publication of Dr. Datta since she joined Brainware University.
Dr. Datta made some useful suggestions for the young researchers. "It is important to identify a subject which is relevant and will appeal to the people at large," she suggested. Furthermore, she highlighted on the importance of collaborative efforts in case of research. Collaboration is the 'buzz word' in the research domain, Dr. Datta said. Collaboration between institutions will certainly enhance the academic pillar. Furthermore, the collaboration between the faculty members from various institutions, as well as the collaboration between the students, help in a powerful exchange of ideas and help in building a dynamic research community.

LLM student Subham Chatterjee's paper published on UGC Care-listed journal Madhya Bharati'

It gives us a huge pride to inform that our LLM student Subham Chatterjee's paper titled, 'Rights of the Indigenous People through the Lens of the Constitution of India' has been published in the UGC Care listed multidisciplinary journal 'Madhya Bharati'.
Subham has a knack for academic research and has participated in many ICSSR conferences. He also many several papers published in journals of repute but a publication in UGC care-listed journal is indeed an extraordinary achievement!
Currently, Subham is pursuing a study on the rights of the LGBTQ+ community focusing how judiciary can impact the rights of these individuals. Subham wishes to explore this issue from a global perspective.

Gold Medal for Srestha Dhar at JSKA International Open Karate Championship 2023

Srestha Dhar has secured the Gold Medal in 'kumite' and 'team kata' categories and Bronze Medal in 'kata' category at the 45th JSKA International Open Karate Championship 2023 held in Kerala.
In the competition, there were participants from various countries including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh etc. Still, our student Srestha owned the 'dojo' with her unbeatable techniques in the field of martial arts. She is now a black belt holder.
Her classmates Aditya Chakraborty and Archi Basu stole the show at the 25th State Taekwondo Championship 2022. Both of them represented Hooghly district winning the gold medals last year.
